A Showing for my Paintings

UPDATE to this post: My new website is live, and the show date is set! Find out more:

New Website: Lisa Creech Bledsoe Fine Art

New Show: June 21, 2025 at Murphy’s

In the past two years since I began painting, I’ve noticed artwork being showcased for sale at local restaurants, general stores, and other similar places.

Paintings are so different when you see them in person rather than online.

When you are actually standing in front of it, a beautifully crafted artwork can take you in and surprise you. It can be an intimate experience, allowing you to note subtleties of texture, line, or tone that you might not otherwise be privy to. When you’re in the same space with someone’s hand-wrought art, you’re a part of the interplay of light and place; it’s an experience.

Looking at art while strolling in a gallery or museum, a local cidery, or a main street shop beats scrolling past artworks on your phone any day.

I would love for people to be able to see some of my paintings in person. And of course I would like to be able to sell pieces as well.

So a couple of months ago I set a goal for 2025: show my work publicly. It sounds simple, but feels… Audacious? Intimidating, for certain.

But I figured I could call a few of the local places where I’ve seen paintings on the wall and for sale.

And while it seemed much more complicated, I had also begun thinking of what it would take to rent a booth at a farmer’s market or local craft fair.

I actually thought the easiest solution might be to just call up a couple of friends who are also fine artists, and go in together to rent a church hall or a room in a restaurant or brewery for a few hours one evening. I still like that idea.

However, before I could begin putting any plan into action, one showed up on my virtual (Facebook) doorstep.

I had just posted my Ducks on the Road painting (complete with missing chicken, ha) online, when a friend left a comment asking if I’d be interested in “an extended gallery showing.”

A Facebook post interchange between Tony and me

What, universe?? Are you monitoring my hopes and intentions?

Tony used to have a little vacation cabin up the road from us where he and his partner stayed when they were able to sneak away from their Greensboro-based businesses.

And it turns out Tony is beginning to showcase local artwork in his furniture warehouse.

So now I’m in the nervous, happy, frenzied throes of planning and creating a collection for Tony to take a look at. And if he likes it, I hope to show it in Greensboro. I’m aiming for June 2025, lord willing and the creek don’t rise. (Again.)

And listen, friend. I know the world is changing.

I realize the future is uncertain. (Hasn’t that always been true?)

I hope I can make art anyway. And share it with you.

UP NEXT: I plan to share some of my planning process, including the specific subject matter that I’m hoping to paint in the next few months, as well as some of my thinking around marketing and website, etc.

Thank you, as always, for being on the journey with me. 🙂

Ha! Thanks. And my goal, while attempting to level up, is to NOT read the bios of the artists who are already selling their work online and in galleries. They all seem to have degrees, awards, and/or dozens of places where their work is already being showcased. But! Gotta start somewhere, right? 😄 🩷
