March wild greens

First Wild Salad of the Year

Foraged our first wild salads of the year today. These greens are also good cooked, but I really wanted a raw salad; just feels so healing.

From the top, then going clockwise, are roundleaf dock (Rumex obtusifolius), chickweed (Stellaria media), hairy bittercress (Cardamine hirsuta), dandelion (Taraxacum officinale), spring beauties (Claytonia virginica), and ramps (Allium tricoccum).

In the second group of photos below, Lance is holding a little bittercress rosette, and Pippi and Beezus ain’t doin’ nothin’.

Oh, we also found hygroscopic earthstars (which we adore).
