Fleabane & Red Clover Bouquet; Bee & Rocky

Fleabane (Erigeron annuus) is a wildflower that doesn’t get much love. It’s a pretty little pioneer species that grows quickly in disturbed areas, and fleabane blooms its heart out all summer long.

I can’t remember where I heard that Fleabane got its name because people used to think it was good for keeping fleas out, and so added it to the rushes that were strewn on dirt floors. It doesn’t actually have any flea-repellant abilities, however.

For this little bouquet I added some red clovers to my fleabane, which I collected during a trek with Rocky and Bee down the Yellow Birch Trail.

My favorite thing with fleabanes is to catch them when the blooms are pinkish, or when they seem to have bedhead.

I can identify with a flower that looks like this in the morning!
