This painting began as a watercolor months ago before being tucked away in the studio. When I returned to it, I covered much of the surface with new layers of acrylic. Then something unexpected happened.
The handwritten marks I’d made in an earlier session—apparently with an ink that wasn’t quite finished speaking—slowly began to reappear through the paint. They don’t resolve into anything readable, just scattered fragments that drift beneath the surface like memory itself.

Her Letter Arrived
15″ × 22″ Mixed media on watercolor paper
$495 in person / show price (frame not included)
The palette is built around a warm bittersweet pink that instantly takes me back to the 1960s. My mother’s first car was exactly this color, and seeing it emerge in the painting filled me with an unexpected sense of familiarity. Lemon yellow and fresh greens move through the composition, giving it energy without disturbing its quiet mystery.
This painting stands a little apart from my Breathing Room landscapes. It leans more fully into abstraction, yet still feels rooted in the same desire to create spaces where memory, light, and emotion can coexist.
At 22″x15″, Her Letter Arrived is already at the larger end of paper pieces I do. But here’s how the painting would look as a 36″x24″ archival print (I LOVE this…)
