Ever since we enjoyed our first chanterelles on the mountain, I’ve been hoping to find more. But today was the first time since last year that I’ve seen one (and there’s only one, so far).

It’s currently the size of a large fist, and I don’t dare harvest it. I hope instead it will reproduce and we’ll see more. I have mentioned this fond request to the mountain.
Here’s the bouquet I picked while on the chanterelle hike today, although of course, these flowers were all found in sunny spots and not down by the creek in our beech grove where the stray chant was. There’s red bee balm, field daisies, white yarrow, queen Anne’s lace, and red clovers in this bouquet.

I also picked a couple of Turk’s cap lilies from a stem that got broken by a passing deer; these were already dying, but I knew if I could get them in some water they might hang around and brighten our table for another day.

And last but certainly not least, here’s a Box-O-Pippi, because cats, boxes. I did mention that she most certainly did not fit in this box. She ignored me.
