Late Summer Bouquets & Buckeyes (Plus Pippi)

We’re in that stage of golden light-filled afternoons, and the temps are dropping into the 40s at night.

Our jewelweed, also called touch-me-not, is covered in yellow and orange blooms and flinging out seeds as you brush by them. Pokeberry, apple trees, and hawthorns are all in fruit.

It’s the perfect time of year for gathering treasures in the woods—buckeyes, acorns, haws, and hickory nuts—and bringing home fall wildflower bouquets.

We actually made it all the way through August without a fire in the woodstove, but I’m pretty sure September will insist we have at least one or two.

We are still working our way through the many storm-downed trees on our property (Lance has rented a wood splitter twice this summer) so our woodpiles are big and ready to go.
