I sometimes… Scratch that. I always dread doing a poetry reading.
I’m a massive introvert, I resist unfamiliar situations, and I struggle to do the public thing, live and in person. Don’t get me wrong—I DO the live and in person thing, but it takes a lot out of me. (It’s possible I’m also getting older and crankier.)
In addition, I struggle because I don’t write with speaking in mind. Mostly I expect a poem to have a reader, not a speaker—not even if that speaker is me.
Plus there’s just the whole Zoom overload thing. Being on video, pandemic, all that.
But sometimes I find that doing a poetry reading is not as bad as I feared, once it’s underway. And this one went well. In fact, for the first time I actually went back and watched/listen to myself and thought, Huh! That was okay.
Blah, blah, confessional over. The Nexus people were absolutely lovely and gracious hosts, and I downloaded the poetry reading video and if you are interested, you can click below and watch/listen!

You’re the best. Also the most understanding. But don’t expect a lot more of these, because whew!
