I can’t help myself.
Years ago, someone planted onions on the mountain above our house. This year, the bloom heads grew taller than I am. This morning, in the cool fog, I climbed up and, against all good sense, cut a handful to bring inside for a bouquet.
On the way back down, I gathered yarrow. On impulse, I added two stems from the geraniums growing in the giant pots on my deck.
Now my kitchen smells just a little like onions.
I’m perfectly okay with that.
