Painting What’s Blooming: New Pocket Paintings Coming Soon

I was listening to a podcast recently where an avid birder was venting about how often movies mess up background bird call soundtracks. He’d be watching a scene set in Oregon, and hear a bird that only lives in Florida. It cracked me up… but I get it.

That same impulse—to stay grounded in what’s actually around me—comes up in my art, especially when I’m painting flowers.

Right now I’m working on a new set of Pocket Paintings, all based on Appalachian late-summer wildflowers. There are goldenrods, clusters of blue asters, bold black-eyed Susans, and fleabane everywhere (if you’ve ever noticed those tiny white daisy-like blooms with the yellow centers, that’s them!).

I’m also letting myself invent a few flowers and shapes—because that’s part of the joy of art, isn’t it? These little pieces are full of color and delight, and they feel like a love letter to this season, in this place.

The drop will go live in the next week or so, and there will only be about 16 pieces, ranging from 2×2 to 6×6 inches, priced from $20–$80.

The last time I released minis, they nearly all disappeared in a single day (!!). So if you see one you love early, send me a note—I’ve already had one friend do that.
