Simple shapes landscape oil painting

Simple Shapes Landscape

One brush, three primary colors plus white.

Keep the shapes simple, don’t overwork or add much detail.

Finish quickly.

Check, check, check!

This tutorial took me about an hour; the finished piece is 9×12. I learned a lot, and feel like I’m moving in a better direction. I like the simple shapes, the un-detailed feeling.

Are there problems? Sure. And I get to keep going, keep painting. Pretty awesome. I’m grateful for the opportunity.

  1. I like the big dark tree front right in this. Just about perfect, I think.

Thanks, Susanna. I tried another similar painting today and it failed completely! Win some, lose some, I guess.
