Storm over hanging rock

Storm Front Over Hanging Rock Oil Painting

I had my sandwich at this spot earlier in the week, and a friend (hi, Margaret!) said I should paint it.

She’s bossy, huh?

Also I like her a lot, and her one simple statement was all it took to get me off my butt and in front of my painting easel, big yay.

This one was a challenge on SO many levels, but I got there, mostly, in the end.

This canvas is 16×20. It was painted on, messed up, wiped off, and gessoed over a few weeks ago before I began today’s effort.

The mountain (which is cut off) on the far left of the photo/painting is Grandfather, and in the center-left (back layer, painted a brighter blue) is Hanging Rock, where I used to live, and on the right in the back layer (in the clouds) is Beech mountain.
