Virgin’s bower (Clematis virginiana) runs riot here in these mountains, and while it’s beautiful in the summertime with its thousand white blooms, I also like it after the bloom season is done, and all that remains is the spiralling silver plumes of the dried achenes.
They are very much like dandelion seedheads, and scatter easily in the winter winds.
Once you know what to look for, you see the fluffy round globes everywhere along the roadsides.
